Our mission is to protect all health care workers who interface with patients and the public on a day-to-day basis.

Many employers are using Technilamp R30-R32 range of upper air ultra-violet sterilisation systems to protect their employees such Health Care workers, Patients, Doctors and Teachers against contagious diseases such as Tuberculosis, Swine Flu, measles, SARS, Bird Flu and Influenza, amongst others when dealing with members of the public. Technilamp has been distributing ultra-violet sterilisation systems for more than 40 years. Our air sterilisation units are manufactured locally for African conditions and are environmentally friendly and chemical free. Our units are tested by the University of Pretoria’s Department of Electrical Engineering Radiometry and Photometry Laboratory.

Air quality is a problem in the day to day life of the average person:

-   Indoor air is 80-100 times more polluted than outdoor air
-   People spend 90% of their time indoors with indoor air generally filled with contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, moulds and mildew.
-   80% of air-conditioned air is also re-circulated and is often not serviced and cleaned during circulation, often adding to air contamination.
-   Infection is spread in many ways, but the two predominant transfers of infection are via contact and inhalation. Up until now, the conventional defence against infection has been surface cleaning and handwashing. Currently, however, nothing is done to sterilise the air and reduce the risks from the inhalation of micro-organisms.
-   Ultra violet (UV) is electromagnetic radiation in a wave length that is invisible to the eye. It is broken down into three spectrums by wavelength namely UV-A, UV-B, UV-C. All of Technilamp’s fittings are designed around the 254nm UV-C spectrum, using Philips lamp technology

HOW GERMICIDAL ULTRA VIOLET (GUV) FUNCTIONS:

Convection air flow dictates that hot rises and air flow is enhanced with the movement of people or the use of ceiling fans. Airborne bacteria moves with the convection flow of air. The UV_C light is germicidal; it deactivates the Tuberculosis DNA or any DNA of the bacteria by destroying its ability to reproduce. The airbourne bacteria is killed instantly when coming into contact within the radius of the UV-C irradiance kill area. UV sterilisation is used in environments such as hospitals, clinics, doctors’ rooms, vets, bedrooms and any buildings where large groups of people are present. Sterile air, for example, prevents the spread of diseases and reduces the risk of infection, both in medical facilities and in the workplace

Mobile Transportation - Ambulance Unit

Paramedics are at the forefront of medical care when treating patients in need of emergency medical care. The paramedic profession is also particularly at risk whilst treating patients during emergencies with undiagnosed disease such as Tuberculosis.

Technilamp's Ambulance unit is designed to protect all persons who work with the public and are exposed to the spread of potentially deadly contagious infectious airborne diseases during transportation. The UVGI fittings are specifically designed to create healthy sterile environment inside the ambulance by limiting the transmission of air borne pathogens such as Tuberculosis, Influenza, Bird Flu and all airbourne viruses and bacteria.

The unique fitting uses low pressure mercury technology to provide a powerful concentrated effect of ultra-violet energy. The system sanitises all air in its path and destroys the pathogens that come into contact with the UV rays. The Technilamp fitting provides a safe, effective, economical and low maintenance UVGI protection in vehicles.

EU TB FACTS

Basic facts on tuberculosis (TB) in the WHO European Region

Overall in 2015 there were an estimated 323 000 new TB cases and relapses in the WHO European Region, with 60 195 cases of TB reported in 30 European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries.

Although the EU/EEA notification rate is continuing a long-term decreasing trend, annual rates of decline are still too small to envisage TB elimination in Europe by 2025 and treatment success rates have remained largely unchanged over the past 10 years. One area of particular concern is multidrug-resistant TB and this remains a major challenge for TB control in the WHO European Region.

In 2015 alone, there were 32 000 estimated deaths from tuberculosis (TB) and around 323 000 new TB cases. This means that every day, about 900 people become sick with TB.

Countries in the eastern part of the WHO European Region are most affected by the TB epidemic: 18 high-priority countries for TB control bear 85% of the TB burden and 99% of the multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) burden (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan).

Although the number of cases in the Region as a whole halved in 2006–2015, the number of new TB cases was almost 8 times higher in high-TB-priority countries than in the rest of the Region.

TB incidence in the Region is among the lowest in the world, but the Region’s burden of MDR-TB is the highest. MDR-TB is one of the key drivers of the TB epidemic in Europe, along with HIV, social determinants and TB risk factors, and limited capacity of health systems.

OUR HISTORY

Technilamp was established over 40 years ago in the gold mining city of Johannesburg, South Africa.

The company has built an enviable reputation for designing and using UV-C technology to disinfect and sterilise air, water and surfaces.

Since inception in the early 1970’s Technilamp has been the preferred supplier of the Philips UV-C range of lamps. All UV-C systems manufactured use the Philips range of lamps only. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bidvest Limited, one of South Africa’s largest conglomerates and is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
